Here is one perspective on what the CHPPD committees and strategic teams are working on or hope to work on. Please feel free to make edits or add comments to the discussion thread at the end of this page. Aims or short-term outcomes for all groups have not been identified,and needs work.


Membership (CHPPD membership will be + or - 5% of level in August of 2008 i.e. 2044 (1965 primary + 69 secondary members))
  • Identify and implement tracking measures for member recruitment and engagement
  • Develop and distribute section brochure
  • Develop short paragraph on member benefits to be share before webinars
  • Identify strategies that actively engage members in strategic issues (health reform, health IT, built communties) and committees (program, policy, membership, executive)
  • and identify areas of member diversity: strengths and challenges
  • Listserv and participation on section wikis will be tracked
  • Section attempts to distribute not more than one email per month.
Communications (Aim?)
  • Track newsletter readership if feasible (unique visitors, and time spent viewing newsletter)
  • Encourage at least two new members to contribute to the newsletter
  • Organize and populate the Section Website (track visitors?)
  • Track membership on section wikis
Policy (Comment on all proposed policies, goal for archiving?, initiate one proposed policy)
  • GC will participate facilitate and participate in policy archiving and policy reviews through an onlines survey and discussions.
  • GC will facilitate one business meeting at the Annual Meeting.
  • CHPPD section member will take a strong role in proposing policy. In 2009, it on "Public Critical Role in Health Reform"
  • Work with TFAIR to identify evaluation framework for proposed policies (who will coordinate?)

Program (Educational emphasis)
Annual Meeting (Aims listed below)
  • In 2008, the CHPPD Section hosted 45 oral, 8 poster. We estimate offering the same or 5% more this year
  • In 2008, the CHPPD Section hosted 3 business meetings. In 2009, the section will host four business meetings.
  • In 2008, the section hosted an informal social. In 2009, the section will host a formal 40th anniversary celebration.
Webinars (Facilitate program, policy, membership, student engagement goals?)
  • At least 3 webinars
  • Average participation 30
  • At least one link between topic and proposed policy
Governance (Aim)
Nominations (Aim:)
  • Assess diversity of current section and governing council leaders as compared to section diversity
  • Identify areas of strengths and challenges
  • Nominate at least one section member to an APHA leadership appointments recruited by word of mouth or emails.

Leadership Development (Aim)
  • Work with section chair-elect on day to day section adminstration
  • Chair-Elect will be alerted to availability of inventory document, and encouraged to participate in the chair-elect meeting in summer.
  • Conference call and email distribution will be implemented
Student (Aim)
  • The CHPPD Section works with the Student Assembly through the Student Committee Chair/Liaison
  • The CHPPD Student Committee is working with the Student Assembly to sponsor 1 student-focused activity at the Annual Meeting, and this is????
  • In 2008, 1600 students attended APHA meetings, and 27 students were session presenters in the CHPPD program
  • Student member to key section committees are:

Strategic Teams (Health Reform, Health IT, Built Communities)
  • Identify at least one project that two or more section members will work on
